* SATURN USE: If you will be using this in a Saturn it is important you select the correct Type. Unfortunately there is no guaranteed way by looking at the outside of the system to know which Type to choose. This will require you to open your Saturn to determine which Type you need by unscrewing the Saturn and opening it up. CLICK HERE for a guide on how to determine which Type to choose

E) CLONE / MODIFIED CONSOLES – Flash carts / ODEs were developed and intended to be used on un-modified original hardware using original hardware accessories. Stone Age Gamer does not guarantee flash cart / ODE operation on clone consoles or modified consoles. Flash carts / ODEs may operate on some clone consoles or modified consoles. However, due to power consumption changes, random hardware changes and/or firmware updates of those consoles we cannot offer a guarantee of flash cart compatibility. Any returns due to incompatibility with clone consoles or modified consoles will result in no refund of any shipping costs and a 10% restocking fee if no defect is found during testing.

    This is great for the Sega Saturn. Installation and setup was super easy. It is very easy to use. The ability to backup save games to the SD card is great. My only complaint is there is no easy way to add games to a SSD/HDD after you install the MODE in to your console.

    MODE is a fantastic device that works for TWO different consoles and has all the features you could ask for. Just be careful if installing for Saturn, as there's many different Saturn versions that need different power requirements and install methods. Depending on which storage method you'll be reading files from, these can also require slightly different power setup, and this isn't clarified enough in the instructions.

    Just got one for my sega saturn and i love it, installation was fairly easy and so far has played all my games ( import or domestic ) i plan on buying another for my dreamcast and possibly for my PSX in the future

    Awsome best option. Soldering skills for myself from noob-ish to a hair intermediate. The instructions on the pdf manual helped. It's still a good buy. If it's pricey and have paypal, paypal has a 4 payment option, that's what I did to buy 2 modes. Once I pay this one off. I'm buying a 3rd one after I pay off the 2nd.

    Install was pretty straightforward. It came with the latest firmware installed. I did need to add the additional power wires for it to work which was pretty easy. Have had zero issues with my ssd hooked up loaded with saturn games.

    The ultimate modernization for Saturn

    I've owned MODE for about 3 months at this point and put a couple of hundred hours on it on Saturn. It has been the best video game related money that I've spent in years.

    The installation into Saturn took about 15 minutes from start to finish. The only tool that you really need is a philips screwdriver, but I chose to tack on the two wires for the power supply with a little bit of solder. I'm convinced that anyone could install this, even if you don't have any experience opening up consoles.

    Prepping the MODE for use was incredibly easy. The manual provides some easy to follow step-by-step instructions that got me up and running within a matter of minutes. Updating the firmware and loading the games database (for cover art - this is optional) was quick and easy.

    Games can be loaded from MicroSD, USB, or the reason to get this device...a SATA 2.5" hard drive. The entire Saturn library fits on a 1TB drive and plays domestic and import titles, along with every translation I've thrown at it and even some VideoCDs. The MODE menus are easy to navigate and intuitive. You can tell that there was extensive planning and UX testing.

    This thing is a little on the expensive side, but worth every penny - and I haven't even put it into a Dreamcast yet! In fact, when the time comes, I'll probably just buy a second MODE. Highly recommended.

    I installed this in my Dreamcast and haven't looked back. No more burning CD-Rs that may or may not work for me. I have been playing those Atomiswave conversions with it. I might buy another MODE when a get a Saturn. Worth every penny!

    Great versatile product, easy install, a bit pricy

    I bought two of these, one for a Saturn and one for a Dreamcast. Both are great and handle any game I've tried. Install was easy, no soldering required, just need the right size screwdrivers. The Dreamcast MODE even fits perfectly with the Noctua fan mod and replaceable battery holder mod. TerraOnion advertises that you can switch the MODE back and forth between systems, but I would not recommend this as the Saturn's ribbon cable feels very flimsy.

    Some issues I have with the device are that while the menu looks nice on the Dreamcast, the Saturn runs the menu at 480i. I wish they would provide an option in the settings to display the menu at 240p instead. Also, this is a bit pricy as far as ODEs go - I've bought multiple other ODEs each for less than half of what MODE costs. No doubt this is because MODE is very versatile and can work with three different systems, as well as multiple different storage mediums.

    There's no realistic alternative to MODE for Saturn and Dreamcast at the moment, unless you're comfortable buying clones with firmwares that can't be upgraded. Despite the high cost and a few minor nitpicks, MODE is a must-buy for any serious Saturn/Dreamcast fan, and I would highly recommend buying it along with the mounting bracket and a tray mount such as those sold buy Laser Bear Industries. Stone Age Gamer also shipped this to me incredibly fast which was nice!
