* SATURN USE: If you will be using this in a Saturn it is important you select the correct Type. Unfortunately there is no guaranteed way by looking at the outside of the system to know which Type to choose. This will require you to open your Saturn to determine which Type you need by unscrewing the Saturn and opening it up. CLICK HERE for a guide on how to determine which Type to choose

Intermediate upgrade

WARNING: We consider this an Intermediate Level upgrade for the Saturn/Dreamcast. Meaning only those with some experience upgrading, disassembling systems, etc. should attempt this upgrade. Stone Age Gamer, nor the manufacturer, will warranty upgrades that are not done properly. If you do not feel comfortable installing the MODE in the Saturn/Dreamcast yourself we highly suggest either using an approved modder (we offer this service for $44.99 which includes the 3D Printed Bracket, see Here for an installation guide using the bracket) or purchase a pre-installed system HERE or bundle the MODE and install service together HERE.

 

PlayStation:

Mod Level: Expert

WARNING: We consider this an Expert Level upgrade for the PlayStation. Meaning only those with some significant upgrading experience should attempt this upgrade. Compatible with Saturn and Dreamcast, same firmware for both systems. Compatible with both 20 pin and 21 pin Saturn consoles. Compatible with both 5v (VA0) and 3,3v (VA1) Dreamcast (proper voltage level conversion).
IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE VA2 DREAMCAST.

E) CLONE / UPGRADED CONSOLES – Flash carts / ODEs were developed and intended to be used on unchanged original hardware using original hardware accessories. Stone Age Gamer does not guarantee flash cart / ODE operation on clone consoles or altered consoles. Flash carts / ODEs may operate on some clone consoles or altered consoles. However, due to power consumption changes, random hardware changes and/or firmware updates of those consoles we cannot offer a guarantee of flash cart compatibility. Any returns due to incompatibility with clone consoles or altered consoles will result in no refund of any shipping costs and a 10% restocking fee if no defect is found during testing.

    Simply amazing

    I have two for both Saturn and Dreamcast and it is totally worth it. Every game I throw it at it seems to work without a hitch and the UI with cover art makes it a pleasure to browse through games, including sorting by genre etc. It clearly shows that Terraonion put a lot of care into this. If you're on the fence, don't be! This is a must have IMO.

    This is my second purchase at stoneagegamer I am very satisfied.The product arrived in Brazil and was not taxed, this site is the best option for shopping for Flashcards and ODE from the internet.

    Great product! Works perfectly on my Saturn model 1 NTSC- US 21-pin. Installation is simple i needed to use the wires that came with the product to use the SSD and connect to the PSU to get the 5 volts and change the position of the switch to EXT.

    Worked well with Action Replay Plus v 2.02 + 4MB of RAM .

    I tested games in .img and .bin format and games with several bin files like Mortal kombat Trilogy that I downloaded and came with 13 bin files, I didn't need to do anything MODE read the game perfectly and the audio worked in the game without any problems.

    Recommended For DC Even If Your GD Drive Is Still Functional

    As someone who has owned a Dreamcast since its 1999 launch, I've had to keep no fewer than five Dreamcasts around, simply because their drives all eventually wore out and suffered recurrent disc read error issues.

    The MODE will greatly increase the life of your console by taking its most failure-prone component, ie its disc drive, out of the equation. On the Dreamcast, it was easy for even an electronics dilettante like me to tear down and swap out. No soldering or system BIOS upgrades required. Just download TerraOnion's custom firmware, install it onto the properly-formatted hard drive of your choice, transfer your game files, snap it into the GD drive's controller port, screw it all back together, and you're gold!

    And with that, no more burning data-compressed CDs so you play those obscure titles you missed during its life... No more adjusting the potentiometer whenever the laser fails to read the disc... No need to risk diminishing the value of your Resident Evil 2 copy just by playing it!

    - One note, Stone Age Gamer's optional installation bracket is recommended only if you plan to put it in either a VA1 model Dreamcast or a unit with a Noctua or other custom-made fan. The bracket is too large for the larger fan assembly of the VA0 to accommodate.

    Great Replacement for Original CD Drive

    This is a great replacement for my dying CD drive on my model 2 Saturn. Installation is pretty straight forward. Even a novice could install this with basic knowledge. I'm also interested to see what TerraOnion might do with the expansion slot on this device. Loading games is fairly quick as well compared to using discs. Initially I had problems even running USB thumb drives or a micro SD card just using the 5V power from the Saturn mainboard. I had to purchase a separate plug and play power board from Mobius Strip Technologies to use any kind of storage. Kind of annoying when you pay this much and you have to buy something else to get it to work. Would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for this issue.

    Wonderful! I just can't say how good mode is, my saturn turned into a new console. I didn't need to worry about model or soldering, the installation is simple and before you knew you will be using your saturn more than your newgen consoles. Now I need to buy another one for my dreamcast.

    This is going to be a two-way review, I'll start with the mode itself, it's awesome, with the recent updates the fact that it supports 3 different systems makes it it very worth its asking price. The different sorting views works nice on the DC but is slower on the others but still looks great. The main reason to buy this in my opinion is the sata interface,its the only ode with one. The second part of this is about stone age, they are fast in shipping and have always been super helpful in dealing with some issues that have come up for me.

    This thing is just fantastic. Revived my Sega Saturn to it's full glory. With album cover support and a full size SSD this is a must have for any Saturn owners who want a great upgrade.

    LOVE the product, I've found no glitches yet. Solderless installation, although i found it easier to solder the optional 5v power cable.a great upgrade for those who do not solder and a great solution to the unique cd size and format that dreamcast used. It's great and I advise the optional mount to anyone with doubts. It makes everything fit perfect.
