The xStation can be installed into these original PlayStation series of consoles:

  • SCPH-100x
  • SCPH-3xxx
  • SCPH-5xxx

This xStation comes with both a PU-8 and PU-18 PCB, which will make it compatible with the models below.

100X Quick Solder Board v1a (PU-8) Compatibility:

  • Most SCPH-1001*
  • Most SCPH-1002*
  • Most SCPH-3000*
  • Most SCPH-3500*
  • All SCPH-5000

* Some of the PlayStation models use an early version of the PU-8, which unfortunately is not compatible. To determine which PU-8 version you have you must open up your PS1 and look for the number on the board. An early version would be X-XXX-XXX-11, and would be incompatible. If there is another number instead of 11 ast the end (21, 22, 23 or 41) it is compatible (the X's are also numbers, they are just not relevant).

550X Quick Solder Board v1a (PU-18) Compatibility:

  • All SCPH-5001
  • All SCPH-5500
  • All SCPH-5501
  • All SCPH-5502
  • All SCPH-5503
  • All SCPH-5552

A nice overview of the different models and motherboards can be found in this wiki.

More information as well as detailed installation instructions can be found in the official wiki.

    x station

Didn`t work had to return it. Tried on multiple consoles a 5k and 1k series. Lifting pins was rather easy. Really wanted this to work to play games on the original consoles Have done alot of rgb upgrades in the past including nes rgb which I think was more difficult than this should`ve been. Giving 3 stars since it seems like a good upgrade just received a faulty unit.

    Xstation is great!!

Posted by Danny T. on Feb 7th 2025

Purchased and installed a couple months ago. Install wasn't too bad. I will admit lifting those 8 little pins from the chip was scary but it got easier after the first couple were lifted. One tip I'd like to recommend is once you remove the solder mask on the 2 vias, put a little bit of solder on both before installing the QSB. The reason for this is once you get the QSB tacked in place, it can be difficult to get solder on those tiny vias with the QSB in place. Install was a success first try! Xstation has worked flawlessly for me! I beat Castlevania SOTN regular and reverse castle. Never once experienced any glitch or hiccup while while playing. I will be purchasing another Xstation once it's back in stock for my spare PS1. Lastly, GitHub does NOT have the latest firmware. I recently had to go on discord to get it. As of 2/7/25 the latest firmware is v2.20

    Playstation 1 Revived

Posted by Jesse on Jan 30th 2025

My brother had left me his ps1 with his collection of games before he passed away, the laser was dead, i came across this amazing upgrade.

It runs perfectly, easy to use, and straight forward ,however this upgrade requires an expert to install, if you are unable to install, either check with stoneage, or your local moder

Thank you for being awesome stoneage

    Extra tips:
1-check your ps model number for compatibility
2- if your ps is pal location variation, then if you have ntsc games they will run in black n white with rca cables unless you have a pal converter or an upscaler will solve the issue (there is a upgrade for that for that if you want to go an extra mile)
3- this does not come with an sd extension
Reaching to put the sd card is tricky, so be careful, you can get extentions as well as a 3d printed cover

xStation - A gaze to the past in the present

Posted by Juan Neira on Jan 29th 2025

The first memories I have of my life as a gamer come from Sony`s first console, the PlayStation 1. I remember spending hours playing on it and marveling at the stories and characters we could find behind the controller.

Personally, they were very fun years, however, with time and technology, the new generations gained strength and the console that once gave me so many hours of fun was relegated to a memory.

With X Station I saw the possibility of giving it a second chance and I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised. Back then, games were hard to find and you only found the most commercial ones, leaving aside many gems that I am now discovering and that I undoubtedly know will make me remember old times and have fun like I did back then.

I totally recommend this product for those who want to give their console a new life and prefer to enjoy PlayStation 1 games on their original hardware, this product is perfect for those looking for a way to explore, discover and remember the games of that time, and why not, a way to preserve them.

    Xstation

Posted by Nathan Gutierrez on Jan 22nd 2025

The xstation os amazing, the install wasn`t to hard, but i have a few years soldering experience, but i`ll admit that the pin lifting was a bit harder than i expected, because i popped off a couple pins that shouldn`t have been popped off, because my dental pic was a hair too big to fit between the ic pins, thankfully the pads did tear, and i just solder them back down.

But all in all the reset went smooth, the qsb and apll wire wasn`t hard to install, but again i`ve had about 4 years soldering practice and doing mods, and it worked perfectly, and all games i tested work just fine.

Also stone age gamer shipped quick, and i received it in exactly 2 and a half business days, but it may depend where you live, and how usps is in your area, i would definitely recommend stone age gamer to anybody.

    Excellent Product

Posted by Daniel on Nov 26th 2024

Honestly not too hard to install so long as you have the right tools and follow the installation guide. I`m not a expert modder but I`d consider something like this to be a intermediate project. But the device is great. It`s been able to work with every game I`ve loaded up. Haven`t had any issues so far. The menu interface is also simple and easy to navigate. If your disc drive is on its death bed, you should consider picking up a xstation.

Fantastic upgrade kit, I have very little issues getting it installed, just be sure to read everything before you purchase - not all PS1 boards are the same!
