    Solid ODE

Posted by Michael S. on Aug 5th 2021

Don't overlook this hardware just because there's a new HD version. There's still a lot of value in this package, and if you're mostly going to be gaming on a CRT then the SD version will be sufficient as most of us will not care for HDMI. The only other major advantage of the HD over this one is SuperGrafx ROM support. So if the two mentioned features are an absolute deal breaker for you, check out the HD. Otherwise, I strongly recommend the Super SD System 3 for all your PC Engine and Turbografx gaming needs!

    Just Works!

I am a huge fan, just load up your roms and off you go, even uses a genesis model 2 AV port for some quality HD Retrovision cables. Outstanding value!!

    Amazing Value!

Posted by Ryan Anderson on May 18th 2021

When you consider the cost of buying a CD unit for your TG-16 or PC Engine and then RGB modding it, coupled with the cost of the games and various memory card upgrades, that makes this solution for anyone wanting to get into the PC Engine library a must have. The unit supports any format of disc images you throw at it and runs like a dream. Another great product from the wonder workers at Terraonion!

The expansion port is still showing the genius of the console's design

Posted by Jeremy Kellner on May 14th 2021

The SSDS3 is the ultimate use of the expansion port. It's worth picking up a console for it if you're starting from scratch. One thing worth noting that isn't talked about too much is the composite video signal quality. It is exceptional compared to any other console's composite signal. That's nothing new as the expansion port always provided a great quality composite video, but the SSDS3 looks and sounds perfect. If you're not using a CRT TV, I would bet that it's composite signal is good enough to look great with the RetroTINK 2X-Pro or 5X-Pro (or other scaler that has composite input) if you're using a modern display. I use mine just with the composite signal on an average consumer CRT and it's great.

This product is over and above my expectations. It is such a good solution for dying lasers and mechanisms! Thanks again!

A little disappointed, but still love it

Posted by Spencer on May 3rd 2021

I bought the second revision, the one with the "fixed" video quality, but I still see noise when playing on an HDTV through a RetroTINK. Also, games crash seconds after boot up when the "return to menu" button input is enabled. Took me forever to figure out why games were crashing. But even with its problems, this is still a great device for its ease of use and upgraded (over RF) video.

    SuperSDSystem3

Posted by Edward C Nielsen on Apr 28th 2021

I've had this for a few weeks now and put it through it's paces. It is a solidly built piece of kit, the plastic housing doesn't have that "cheap" feel that you can get with other aftermarket parts like this.

Compatibility is pretty great as well. I've only come across a few cd games that get a read error, though deleting them and re-ripping them to the SD card fixed them.

The hucard games with 100% compatibility no problems there.

My unit comes with the updated PCB so I don't have the audio issues from the first revision, nor did I have to fix the orientation of the tantalum capacitor. The RGB picture is nice and crisp after I performed the jailbar fix on my PC engine.

Overall I'd give it a 4 Star review just for the few incompatibility problems this far out from release, even if the fix is super easy it's a little annoying to have to remove the SD card everytime I find a game that errors out.

    Super SD System 3

This is what you need when owning a PC Engine. I got mine two weeks ago and tested many games with it. Everything is working perfectly. Picture and sound quality are also great. It is expensive but worth the price.
