Does what I wanted it to do

Posted by Nick H on Apr 17th 2021

For reference, using with a standard PC Engine and video output is through an Insurrection Industries SCART cable connected to an OSSC.

Installation was fine enough, though I made sure that all of the pins in the back of my PCE were not bent ahead of time and slowly attached it to the system. It did require a little bit of force to get it on all the way which did make me a little nervous, but it's on there and I don't plan on taking it off anytime soon.

A big reason I wanted to get one of these is for its easy RGB out, taking any Genesis Model 2 cable (aforementioned SCART to OSSC.) That worked out just fine, no issues getting it connected, and the picture looks nice and crisp. Sound is good too, though as others mention there is a slight but noticeable amount of noise whenever CD games are being loaded. It's not a dealbreaker by any means, but for the record it is there.

Other than that, it loads and plays games just fine. Been throwing a bunch of HuCard and CD-ROM games from both NTSC and NTSC-J regions and I haven't encountered a problem with any of them yet. Very quick loading. The micro-SD card slot is easily accessible if you need to pop it out anytime to update your list.

Overall, I haven't had a bad experience with this yet and say it's a fine accessory to have.

    As Good As It Gets

I bought this and let it sit for a long time. I thought it was going to be harder to set up than it was. Once I opened it, I saw very simple instructions sitting right on top. I plugged it into my TG-16 after setting it up and was very surprised at how easy it is to navigate. The games run flawless and I now have a very easy way to play my TG-16 collection. If you are on the fence....don't be. It is a very nice product.

    SSDS3

Pricey but worth it for not having to deal with CDs ever again. Replaced my EverDrive and works great on a SuperGrafx. The latest update fixed some issues that bothered me but all good now. Wish the font was a bit smaller but not a big deal.

    SUPER SD SYSTEM 3

Posted by William Kimble on Apr 10th 2021

I was a little hesitant to buy the SUPER SD SYSTEM 3 due to the price, but I have to say it was totally worth it! There was a little trial and error setting it up but most of the errors were on my part. Once it was all set up I was extremely impressed. One thing of note, when you connect it to you TG16 be VERY VERY careful as it is very easy to bend the pins even when you think one of them is not bent. If you are not paying attention it can happen and have you scratching your head trying to figure out whatever random issue it causes.

    What an awesome product!

Posted by Dan Blancett Jr. on Apr 10th 2021

The SSDS3 is amazing. Works right out of the box. Format your SD card correctly for the size and you will have no problems. Going from RF to RGB via HD Retrovision component cables is a leap in quality you will not believe. Compatible with all roms and CD images I have thrown at it. With all the options this device provides, get a recap and jailbar fix, and you will have the best Turbografx 16/ PC Engine experience there is to be had! Take all precautions mentioned in the disclaimer. Do not open the device unless you know what you are doing.

    SUPER SD SYSTEM 3

Excellent product, easy to use, in addition to being able to play great titles like Castlevania Blood of Rondo and Snatcher from the CD system. The right size to be attached to a Pcengine and its RGB output gives the option of using it in PVM or with an OSSC in more modern screens

    Works awesome

Loads faster than my CD-ROM, and no need to worry about save space. Highly recommend.
No I don't have to worry about my super CD-ROM 2 from breaking down again.
