RetroTink 2X Pro - Component, S-video, Composite, to Digital Video Output

The RetroTINK-2X Pro is an affordable video processor to add high-quality analog video inputs to modern HDMI displays by converting 240p/480i/288p/576i NTSC/PAL sources to 480p/576p.

It is specifically optimized to accurately handle 240p/288p inputs by offering ultra-low latency line doubling for bypassing a display’s built-in SDTV scaler/deinterlacer which often adds significant lag and visual artifacts.

The 2X-Pro takes everything from the original device and improves upon it. The Pro model comes with an injection molded enclosure, a full-size HDMI port, and better build quality. Under the hood, a high quality 4-layer PCB is used, as well as multiple independently regulated and filtered power supplies.

The 2X-Pro adds scanline generation, in addition to the smoothing, as optional filter modes. Different color-encoding formats (PAL-60, NTSC-443, SECAM) are now automatically detected. New firmware can be flashed via the USB port using a PC-based program without the need for special tools.

All this adds up to make the RetroTink Pro the simplest, plug-and-play solution for connecting retro-consoles to modern TVs.

Everything that was great about the original is back plus new improvements and features:

  • Professional injection molded enclosure
  • Inputs: Component, S-video, Composite (shared with the green jack)
  • Output: HDMI
  • Automatic format detection: NTSC, PAL, PAL-60, PAL-M*, NTSC-443* and SECAM*
  • SCANLINE mode
  • Adjustable comb filtering for Retro (notch) and Video (2-D comb)
  • USB firmware upgrade capability - no special tools needed

*PAL-M, NTSC-443 and SECAM auto-detection and support have been implemented in the firmware but only limited testing has been done due to the inavalibility of these devices in the US.

Powered by optional Micro USB cable (suggested to use a USB port on your TV if available)

Optional 20 watt USB Power Brick includes dual ports (USB and USB-C) and can be used on multiple devices at once.

    Working Man's upscaler

Posted by A. Wise on Jul 26th 2021

Easy to use, great results! This may not be as versatile as some other upscaling options, however its plug and play no fuss. This makes a quality 240p signal look great on a modern display without any hassle or noticeable LAG.

    Awesome upscaler

This little device is perfect for every retro system I've thrown at it. I've used it for 5 consoles: an original NES, a modded NES, an original SNES, a modded SNES, and a modded Famicom. Everything looks great! People compliment the quality when I stream on Twitch. It's easy to use and very durable. There are a few different versions of the Retrotink, so you'll want to get the right one depending on which type of cables you're planning to use. This was the right one for me, because I mainly use composite and component cables.

    Excellent and Versatile

I originally bought this as a way to convert S-Video from my Nintendo 64 to HDMI for use on modern HDTVs and Computer monitors. I wanted the best picture I could get out of a system known for blurry graphics, and I didn't really want to mod the console itself. Some people are happy to do RGB mods, but personally I like to preserve the hardware as it was. I'd tried the low cost simple converters and while they "worked" the picture would just become a messy soup that was honestly almost impossible to enjoy.

The Retrotink however does a really great job. It's not an OSSC with a million options, but it has the basics and it does them well with no added lag.

I've since used it for all 3 inputs and consoles from NES to PS2. It really does a great job and I have zero complaints.

There are some different variations in the Retrotink lineup and the 2X Pro may not be the best fit for your exact use case. I'd definitely recommend looking into each one's features and making sure you're getting the right one for you, but I would wholeheartedly endorse the family of products.

I'm glad I bought mine from Stone Age Gamer. Prompt delivery. Good packaging. Great communication. It was my third major purchase from them and I keep coming back for a reason.

    Perfect for Returning Retro Gamers

This is the best for my Old Consoles (Especially my Sega Genesis), and it Makes the Old Consoles look new again on LCD TV's.

Great upscaler that is easy enough to be used by anyone.

The RetroTink 2X Pro is great. I am in a position tha tI really wanted to enjoy my growing stable of classic consoles on my living room TV in the comfort of my easy chair. Unlike some other great upscalers the RetroTink doesn't require you to spend a fortune on expensive RGB mods for your consoles or to buy the pricey RGB cables. I played all of these consoles when they were new on the market. That means that I am old enough that my vision is no longer perfect. using affordable s-video cables looks great on the RetroTink! Even Composite on the unmodified NES looks pretty darn good. I can't recommend this product enough.

    Retro Tink 2X Pro

This scaler handles the transition between 240p and 480i like a champ! Have been able to finally enjoy the Saturn and PS1 library again on actual hardware on a modern HDTV.

The Smoothing Filter (which is not Bilinear, but rather a 'Slick' filter like the EON Super 64) matches the Super 64 image-for-image, but unlike the Super 64 this Scaler isn't limited to only one platform. No setting to mess with here either - just plug-in-play. Most you will have to do is tap either the INPUT or FILTER buttons to set it to you're liking.

My advice though, is to buy a Adapter with a Power switch on it (most cheap Retropi Power Adapters will work for example) - because the Retro Tink 2X Pro doesn't have a power switch. You have to plug it in and unplug it when not using. Ofcourse many people solve this problem by just plugging the Retro Tink 2X Pro into the USB port on the back of their HDTV or Monitor (so it turns on & off with you're HDTV/Monitor).

Also, if you buy one of these babies, make sure to go to the Retro Tink website and download the latest Firmware (which updates often enough) and install it. Newer firmware improves the image and features!

Retrotink 2X Pro is essential for retro gaming.

Posted by Andrew Timmerman on Apr 11th 2021

The 2X-Pro provides a clean, lagfree, and crisp linedoubled image for 2D graphics especially. I'm obsessed with the Retrotink family and can't imagine retro gaming without them.

    RetroTink 2X Pro

The 2x Pro M is better if need 480p passthrough, but for 480i and under I find this one to look better for virtually everything. Works perfectly and definately looks and works better compared to getting a generic HDMI converter for every retro device you have. Scanlines filter can be distracting for large TVs but the smoothing filter is perfect for early 3D games. For Genesis through composite specifically(to deal with the dithered graphics), the 2x scaling cleans up the video quite a bit to hide signal artifacts. Works fantastic, make sure to get the one that suits your needs.
