Great little cart, if power hungry for original SNES

Posted by Will on Oct 7th 2021

This cart is so much fun to use. It can handle almost any ROM you throw at it, even intensive, advanced-chip games such as Starfox and Yoshi’s Island. While I’ve already played most of these games, I’ve really enjoyed being able to run hacks and homebrews on my SNES without any issues; games like the Super Metroid/Link to the Past randomizer are much more fun to run through on original hardware.

I have two small gripes with it. First is the cartridge shell design, which makes for a much tighter fit in my early SNES than any other cart. There’s very little give; my console’s power-slider lock seems to move forward *just* far enough to turn the console on. Speaking of power, my other issue with the cart is how much power it draws. If your power supply is unreliable (whether due to the cheapness typical of many third-party supplies or, as in my case, a failing original SNES power adapter), the image your FXPak provides may be unstable and appear glitchy. Replacing my power supply with a modern, well-regulated one fixed all issues I had, but it’s something to be aware of if you’re already noticing issues with other, less power-hungry SNES carts.

Overall, though, I’m very happy with this device. It’s quick to load, has the most extensive capabilities of any cart of its type, and looks to continue to receive great updates adding even more features. While certain older SNES models might have issues with this cart, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone else.

    Works perfectly

Posted by BJS on Sep 1st 2021

So far seems to work exactly as advertised; the Pro version handles SDD-1 games (with fan translation patches) such as Star Ocean without issue. Loading games onto the SD card is trivial with any USB SD reader.

No more worrying about whether gamesave batteries have gone bad, no more worrying about further wear on ageing original cartridges, and no more feeling bad about wasting shelf space with a bunch of cartridges that should ideally be stored for safekeeping (and in cases of rare carts like Earthbound, out of sight): this is an absolute no-brainer if you're a retro SNES gamer.

    All in one beast

Posted by Kaeser on Aug 7th 2021

It took a while to take the plunge, but I'm so happy to finally have my FXPAK Pro. Having MSU-1, SA-1 support (including fastrom hacks) and SGB, this is well worth the price of admission. The best flashcart on any platform, period.

    MUST HAVE FOR ANY COLLECTOR

Posted by JSP on Aug 7th 2021

After doing a lot of research, including reddit and watching videos, the FXPAK PRO (frmly SD2SNES) was the best and most popular solution for Collectors like me. It's the most upgraded cart with the bells and whistles. I was really happy and impressed with the quality and UI with its many settings. If you want to save your original cartridges, this is the best alternative to play all games in one cartridge! There are only (2) point that prevent me from giving it 5-stars. [1] USER INTERFACE: I wish it had a more GUI feel. Such as allowing game metadata (i.e. release year, description, players, etc) and art work (i.e. box art/title screen/game art). This would provide a full immersive experience allowing you to see a preview of all the games. [2] HARDWARE: The microSD card slot cutout on the shell is slightly bigger than the actual slot. I've already slipped my microSD card into the cartridge shell rather than the slot several times. I had to open the shell in order to get the microSD card. Not a major issue, but an annoying one if you are not careful. Perhaps it's specifically my cart shell andor the board, where others don't have this issue? Regardless of those (2) points, I highly recommend this for any Collector/Enthusiast. Thanks!

    FX Pak Pro

High quality product. Very easy to configure. I have tried all the ROMs that I wanted and they all loaded quickly and without any problem. It works fine together with OSSC.
The addition of the MSU-1 chip is brutal! Graphics and music like the SegaCD of the time.
Without a doubt, highly recommended product. You have the complete SNES catalog in a single cartridge.
The shipment by StoneAge Gamer has been perfect, the package has arrived in excellent condition.

    FXPAK PRO is perfect!

Posted by Michael C. on Jul 5th 2021

I spent a lot of time researching the pros and cons of jailbreaking my Super NT vs using the FXPAK Pro. Ultimately, having the ability of save states and a much nicer look to the game menu interface sold me. At checkout, I chose no SD card & the extra pack. The extra pack included a case for the cartridge (looks kinda like a hard plastic Blockbuster case), some stickers, and an instruction manual for FXPAK Pro. Well worth the extra money.

Using a Mini SD card with the FXPAK Pro, I've loaded every US game, every European game, and a lot of translated games. Every single one has played flawlessly.

I've literally had no issues whatsoever with this cartridge. So much so, that I just bought the N8 Pro minutes ago.

The Perfect Cartridge for your SNES Needs

Posted by Matthew Baker on Apr 10th 2021

I purchased my FXPAK Pro well over a year ago after weighing my options for several months and I was blown away by the degree of quality I was met with. I needed a flash cart that would handle a vast majority of the special chip games that make up so many of my childhood memories of the SNES and it handled everything I threw at it with flying colors. It’s truly a marvel of engineering.

Now as for a review of the physical attributes of the cart the variant of FXPAK Pro I purchased was a basic grey North American cartridge shell in the Classic flavor and I thought if I was going to go all out I might as well spring for the Deluxe version while I was at it. I was met with a sturdy jet black Bit Box themed to match my cartridge with a matching printed instruction manual, logo sticker, and Stone Age Gaming sticker placed in the inner pocket of the box. It was a bit larger than I expected and reminded me a lot of the large bubbled plastic VHS cases that were used for some of the premium movie releases back in the day. It was large enough to accommodate the cartridge and all of its supplementary content securely and that’s really all I could ask of it. The cartridge casing was machined very well. The plastic is sturdy and the the stickers look nice with a satin finish. I will say that the only minor flaw I noticed was that the hole machined for the microSD card did seem just a hair too large for the actual micro SD slot but if you’re paying attention to what you’re doing when you plug the card in you’ll never even notice that as an issue.

In summery the FXPAK Pro has been and still is a wonderful addition to my setup and I couldn’t possibly recommend it more.

Exactly w4hat I was looking for!

Posted by JS on Apr 4th 2021

There isn't much I can say about the FXPAK Pro that hasn't already been covered. I highly recommend My Life in Gaming's video on flash carts to get a good rundown on the uses of these. In my case, it's seeing great use in some hacks I've been wanting to play on original hardware on my CRT, as well as allowing me to access my library without having to frequently swap cartridges. Very happy with this purchase, and looking forward to using it again and again!
