The wait is finally over! The MemCardPRO2 is here!

The brand new MemCard PRO2 for the original PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 1 consoles is the last Memory Card you will ever need!
No more piles of memory cards, no more guessing where your precious save is, and no more corrupt saves!

The MemCard PRO2 solves the problem of storing your game's saves forever!

The features you love from the MemCard PRO & MemCard PRO GC

With 2 widely successful MemCard PROs already available, you can trust the quality and attention to detail has transferred over to our new MemCard PRO entry. All your favourite features are already available on launch day, plus more. We've even planned some exciting new features that will arrive through our super-easy over-the-air firmware updates.

Latest Tech

Using the latest high quality components, the MemCard PRO2 offers an almost infinite amount of save blocks for your PlayStation 2 or PlayStation 1, from a single slot! The latest and greatest ESP32S3 powers the core of the MemCard PRO2 with lower power consumption and generated heat than the previous iterations. It can still provide and incredible amount of speed with its dual-core 240MHz processor and spacious memory.

Endless Storage

The MemCard PROs are famous as "the last memory card you will ever need" for your console due to the fact that it allows you to create a truly astonishing amount of virtual memory cards. This also applies to the MemCard PRO2!

Not only can you create 128 8MB memory cards per 1GB  for the PS2, or 8192 PS1 memory cards ber 1GB on your microSD card, but you can also configure the supported PS2 sizes for your virtual memory cards*! Anything from 8MB to 128MB is supported**, and the MemCard PRO2 will even automatically detect the size and console it's connected to and emulate it accordingly!

Files are stored on either a microSD card that you can plug it to the MemCard PRO2, or on an externally powered USB flash drive or hard disk! microSD cards of up to 2TB are supported, but you can go larger on a USB device, as the theoretical limit of an exFat volume is 128PB!!

Wireless features that make sense

The MemCard PRO2 comes with WiFi built-in. This allows you to connect your MemCard PRO2 to your wireless network and manage it remotely. Create, edit and delete your virtual memory cards without touching your microSD card. You can even manually set names for your cards, or change the GameDB assigned name for it to one of your liking!

If you prefer managing the files directly, you can use the built-in FTP server and directly access the files, as if the microSD card was on your computer's desktop.

And for the first time, the MemCard PRO2 supports automatic cloud backups out of the box!

A Bigger OLED Display

We really loved the MemCard PRO PS1 OLED display, so we decided to go bigger! A 128x64 monochrome OLED display allows for more details to be presented to the user, with useful information and a heap of new active status icons that help you determine if your MemCard PRO2 is active, the WiFi status or the type of console it's connected to, etc.

The new power of the ESP32S3 also allows us to up the framerate of the display for smooth animations and marquee scrolling of the game name!

GameID Support!

In 2021 we introduced the world to our invention, the GameID and GameDB systems, that allows the MemCard PRO to communicate to a system device and determine what the running game is. This allowed us to automatically switch the loaded virtual memory card and transform the experience of loading games to one that makes you forget a memory card is even plugged in! The MemCard PRO could automatically load the associated VMC, providing a dedicated card for each game with 8 channels of 15 blocks.

The MemCard PRO2 continues to deliver this great experience and can not only detect the loaded game with support from OPL, but it can detect any disc natively on a PS2, whether it’s a PS1 or PS2 game! Once a game is detected, it creates or loads a set of 8 channels of dedicated virtual memory cards. This saves a lot of pain managing your saves on the same Memory Card by automatically associating a virtual memory card to a specific game!

Furthermore, ODE support for the PlayStation 1 console is still supported and works out of the box!

Features:

  • Larger 128x64 Monochrome OLED display that shows the loaded virtual memory card, status icons and other information
  • Supports any microSD card, from 1GB to 2TB. Each 1GB of storage provides enough space for 8192 PS1 memory cards or 128 8MB PS2 memory cards
  • WiFi connectivity and remote features through a WebUI and FTP Server
  • Cloud backups / cloud saving (multiple providers supported - details will be announced at a later date)
  • Switch active channels and navigate through the virtual memory cards with two physical buttons on the device
  • Easy wireless network setup from a wireless device's web browser, by connecting to the MemCard PRO2's access point.
  • Supports a special set of instructions for automatic loading, game info and remote control (GameID & GameDB via ODE for PS1 / OPL or Natively (original discs) for PS2)
  • High quality manufacturing with an injection molded shell and hard gold plated PCB contacts.
  • USB flash drive support (externally powered)
  • USB host mode lets the MemCard PRO2 connect to your computer and act as an SD card reader.
  • Load and manage stored memory cards remotely through the WebUI
  • Easily access and manage the physical files on your MemCard PRO2 microSD card over an FTP client
  • Launch FMCB directly from a virtual memory card!
  • PS3 Adapter Mode allows you to use the MemCard PRO2 as a PS3 adapter on a PS3 with just the use of a USB cable!

Planned Features:

  • SMB Client for automatic remote loading in diskless mode
  • Acts as a controller receiver for a surprise future 8BitMods product on the PS1
  • OPL Block device support
  • ... more surprises!

*   planned feature
** not all sd cards are supported in this mode

    A truly great device

Posted by N Matheson on Feb 26th 2025

Most people probably wouldn`t realize how important something like this is. Having owned a PS2 back in the day, I usually had enough free space on my two memory cards as access to games was fairly limited. Even so, I still had to occasionally delete the save of a less than stellar game to move on to the next. Now with so many homebrew options, something like this becomes a necessity. It takes all of 5 minutes to set up and it ingeniously detects the specific game you are playing, creating a unique virtual card for that game. It will do this for every unique game you play. Now, anytime you play that unique game, it auto mount that virtual card seemlessly. It`s so simple and so incredibly useful. The screen in small and simple... and perfect in its function. The wifi is useful and works without a hitch. Seriously one of the best purchases you can make if you are into PS2 today. Honestly I went into this not exactly sure what to expect and now I can`t wait to get my hands on a GameCube version and am patiently awaiting the VMU Pro announcement.

    Gift that keeps on giving!

    Posted by darkstrider2 on Feb 20th 2025

Honestly I`m ambivalent about my old save files disappearing. I`m someone that is completely satisfied with using cheap 3rd party cards for my PS2 needs and couldn`t think of a reason why I would justify $60 to buy this.

Until they announced MMCE OPL integration with the MCP2. This allows you to run your games off the MCP2. Now although this isn`t as performant as using OPL with a Fat PS2 HDD, it solves a problem I always wanted to solve, a clean way of using my silver Slim PS2 I got in college in my main setup without wearing down the my only good PS2 DVD drive. All PS2 Slims game loading at this point were too technical for me to bother setting up.

This is a game changer. It`s more or less plug and play after the initial setup, and it`s compatible enough and runs well enough with games that I`m fine with not using a FAT PS2.

In addition, they just announced that you will eventually can use certain BT controllers on your PS1 with just MCP2 (and MCP1 (002 rev)). So no need to use any your of controller ports of your PS1!

If you prefer a PS2 Slim in your setup, I think the reasons above is well worth the $60 investment in an MCP2.

    Memcard Pro 2

I have been using this for a few months now. I love how easy it is to switch from PS1 to PS2 games. I don`t think I will ever be able to run out of save space now. Thanks 8BitMods,

    Great experience

Super easy to set up and it`s super convenient having the Mem card pro 2 switching automatically depending on what game is playing. Really wish I had made the switch sooner.

    Small but feature pack!

Posted by Jim Bartley on Feb 14th 2025

This thing is the holy grail when it comes to having infinite save files on one device! Device is stable and FAST! You can even play your legal backups on this thing as well! I have tried other solutions for the PS2 but this thing tops them all. Super happy for finding this and making the purchase.

A bit lacking for the price

    Posted by sync-on-luma (Y) on Feb 9th 2025

Despite being sold as hardware, the MemCard Pro 2 is a software product first and foremost, and as a software product it is largely excellent. The feature set is extensive, easy to use, and nearly everything works as it should.

Where I find the MemCard Pro 2 to be most lacking is in the hardware. For a device that`s clearly aiming for a premium look and feel (not to mention price), I would have expected a better design and build quality. That`s not to say that it`s poorly made, but this device has the same creaky plastic and rough seam edges as my $12 MX4SIO. Both devices lack the rock-solid feel of an OEM PS2 memory card.

Adding to the feel of cheapness are the two buttons that noticeably flex the PCB inside the case when pressed, and the Mini-USB port, which has no business being on used over USB-C on a upgradeern device. Additionally, there`s a defect that I believe is specific to my unit, where the display is crooked relative to the window in the housing. It`s not enough for any of the UI to be cut off, but the misalignment is very noticeable.

While the inbuilt software is undoubtedly the better half of this product, I did still hit a few snags with it. The card hosts an internal web server that can be accessed via WiFi, which is great theory. The problem is that I have a MAC address filter on my network for added security, and the MemCard Pro 2 does not have it`s WiFi MAC address listed anywhere. It`s not viewable on the WiFi setup page, and it`s not printed on the card. I even opened it up on the ***umption that the MAC address would be printed on the NIC, and it`s not there either. I had to disable MAC filtering to get the thing on my network, which I`m not happy about.

This issue could have been side-stepped if were possible to mange all the device settings from the WiFi network the card broadcasts out of the box. Unfortunately, when connected directly like this, the web server forcibly redirects to the WiFi setup page, with no way to access any of the actual settings.

The worst part is that I could likely fix these issues with the web server myself, if it weren`t for the fact that none of the firmware source code is publicly available. It`s for that reason alone that I`d recommend getting the publicly available SD2PSX over the MemCard Pro 2. I would have done that myself if I had been aware of it`s existence at the time I made my purchase.

    Extremely Convenient

Posted by NM on Feb 5th 2025

Really a great memory card. With a large collection in OPL, you don`t even need to think about your saves. It just works, and it looks good doing it, too. It`s a great device, so much so that I`m going to look at grabbing a GC version, and I hope for a VMU in the future.

    Memcard Pro2

Posted by Jake on Feb 2nd 2025

I originally had the Memcard Pro for the PS1. I loved the ability never run out of memory cards ever, so I was pumped for the Pro 2. The Pro2 is a step up for sure. I bought one for my downstairs and one for my upstairs PS2s. Being able to FTP into them was something I never thought would be a thing. I just transfer the memory cards between the 2 so I never have to touch them and a have 2 identical copies in case something happens to one. Definitely worth the purchase.
