Make no mistake - this is the same cheap component you`ll find on other sites, and has the same problems.
There seems to be a luck of the draw involved if the drive you receive in the mail will actually function out of the box. The one I got did work partially; however, it would consistently not be able to read music tracks that were further along towards the outer edge of the disc. This problem was consistent with multiple discs.
The factory that makes these does not seem to lubricate the moving parts properly and chances are it`ll have disc reading issues on certain games.
The good news is that it is possible to disassemble the drive and lubricate it yourself - if you use a very tiny amount of silicon grease on the plastic gears and a couple drops of sewing machine oil into the drive spindle, you can most likely get the drive working smoothly, as it should. However, the fact that you need the tools and skills to do this yourself to get it working properly means that I cannot in good faith give this any more than two stars.
To its credit, this drive can boot games that my worn out OEM drive could not. But you have to put in the extra effort if you want full performance.
Thank you guys so much for selling a high quality working PS1 laser. I tried the potentiometer adjustments on the original and then tried replacing it with a Chinese one that felt cheap and didn`t work at all. This one worked first try!
This replacement lens assembly is just what I needed to get my PS1 reading reliably again and work like the day it was sold on the shelves. If you want to relive the glory days of the PS1 and the old lens just ain`t what it used to be, you can`t go wrong with one of these fine replacements.
If you're afraid of getting a cheap Chinese disk drive, your fears will not be met here! You will get a drive that works and lasts!
