READ BEFORE ATTACHING TO SYSTEM

Before inserting the EngineBlock AV into your system please make sure all pins on the system's expansion port are straight and aligned. Insert the EngineBlock AV very slowly and make sure everything is aligned properly. When inserting the EngineBlock AV if there is any resistance please stop insertion immediately and check to make sure there are no pins that are bent. Failure to do this could result in bent or broken pins. There is no way for the EngineBlock AV to bend or break expansion port pins unless the pins were already misaligned, bent, or broken beforehand. Neither Stone Age Gamer or the manufacturer is responsible for any damage of property this product may cause. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

FRAMEMEISTER + RGB WARNING

There may be audio noise that some users find distracting when using this product with a Framemeister via RGB. This is an issue with the Framemeister itself and not with this product. Stone Age Gamer charges a 15% re-stocking fee and no refund of any shipping costs due to returns regarding this issue.

The Engine Block AV is a newer, more affordable, and better alternative to the original TurboBooster which adds new video outputs to the TurboGrafx-16 / PC Engine using a Sony CXA1645 video encoder IC. Internally the Engine Block AV uses the dbGrafx Booster TTP by dbElectronics. This product does NOT include any AV, S-Video or DIN9 cables. You will receive the adapter ONLY.

Compatible with any TurboGrafx-16, PCEngine or SuperGrafx that has the rear connector for the Booster or CD add-on. Will NOT work with CD add-on or Booster attached.

Three output connectors are found on the Engine Block AV each carrying the following signals:

  • Mini DIN9 (a.k.a. Sega Genesis 2 A/V connector)
    • RGB + CSYNC (i.e SCART)
      • Compatible with standard Sega Genesis 2 cables including 75 ohms resistors and 220uF coupling capacitors
        • We recommended a cable with CSYNC, please contact us for a recommended source.
      • Amplified by CXA1645
    • Video level CSYNC
    • CVBS (a.k.a. composite video)
      • Compatible with out of the box yellow/white/red Sega Genesis 2 A/V cable
      • Transcoded from RGB by CXA1645
    • Stereo Audio Only
      • While the Sega Genesis 2 A/V pinout permits mono audio, it is not supported by the dbGrafx Booster (why would you want mono audio anyways?)
      • Amplified on dbGrafx Booster
  • S-Video connector (a.k.a. Mini DIN4)
    • Y/C Video
      • Compatible with standard S-Video cable
      • Transcoded by CXA1645
  • RCA Jacks (yellow/white/red)
    • CVBS (a.k.a. composite video)
      • Direct signal from console (i.e. same as original Turbo Booster)
    • Stereo Audio
      • Amplified on dbGrafx Booster

PLEASE NOTE: HD Retrovision cables are not compatible with this device.

    Engine Block AV

Great AV option for TG16. Composite looks great and component looks amazing. I use the Engine Block with Retrotink 5X Pro and HD Retrovision Sega Genesis 2 component cables on a modern UHD TV.

    Perfect

Excellent MOD, it worked perfectly on my GBS Control, but it didn`t work on OSSC which is a very complicated upscaler in terms of compatibility.

    Engine Block AV (TurboBooster)

Tested picture on a TG-16 with a retrotink mini 2x for composite and s video as well as scart via ossc. Either option produces a superior picture to that of the RF. Easily the best picture for the price. Highly recommended for the TG-16.
