Old Skool SNES style GameCube Controller

Posted by Matt on Dec 10th 2025

Awesome controller. Perhaps not the highest quality but it's very comfortable, is affordable, and gets the job done. The Dpad is just as good as an snes controller, not sure why others are having issues. It works really well on the snes, nes, sega, and Gameboy replicators/virtual consoles on the Wii.

Playing GBA games on my GameCube, works great!

Posted by Michael on Feb 4th 2024

After reading the reviews I was worried about the d-pad being bad. Maybe it is, but I played through the GBA port of Super Mario World via the GameCube Game Boy Player and didn`t have a single issue with the controller. So I`m happy with mine at least.

Might get into a problem using it with GBI

Posted by Rolando G on May 7th 2023

At least in my experience, using GBI with this controller and my FireRed copy, seems to be detecting the hold of any direction in the dpad as a singular input, causing it to tap multiple times instead of a long tap, so my character ends up running a step, then pausing, then running another step then pausing and so on and so for.

Dpad is said to be bad

Posted by Jon on Mar 23rd 2023

I heard all over that the d-pad is terrible on this and to use a regular snes dpad.

I thought ``nah, I like the white dpad, I`m going to see is I can fix it.`` I think I ruined the controller by trying to modify it...

Try the snes d-pad switch or keep it as is, don`t be like me.

    Works Great & Perfect Price

Posted by Jer on May 2nd 2022

I've wanted the Hori controller for a long time but never wanted to pay the high prices. Really glad this controller came out and it works really well.
I've tried out some GBA games like the Mega Man Zero titles and had no issues. It's also great for 2D games on the Gamecube like Mega Man Network Transmission.
I've never used the Hori controller so I'm not sure how this one directly compares; but it's a great alternative considering the price differences. Definitely recommend.

    Game Cube controller

The GameCube controller is amazing for the price, and it completes my GameCube collection. Now buttons feel great, but the road is little soft. But still amazing

A Decent Alternative to the Hori Controller

Posted by Tayler on Jan 8th 2022

This controller is good alternative to the much more expensive hori controller. The face buttons as well as the shoulder buttons have a nice clicky and responsive feel to them. The d pad is not the best. Although it is better than the one on the GameCube standard controller. If you are looking to play Gameboy titles or some 2D games on the Cube, this is the best bang for your buck controller you can get that is affordable.

Great Alternative for the Game Boy Player!

Posted by George Gracin III on Jan 6th 2022

I have been searching for the Hori wired Gamecube pad for my wife for years and when I found out about Old Skool's version, I had to give it a shot. So far, I'm very happy with it. It feels super comfortable in my large hands and works leagues better on the d-pad side than trying to use a GameCube controller for Game Boy games with my Game Boy Player. Only downside I can think of is that the D-pad is a little stiff out of the box. It took a good amount of play to break it in but once it is, it works like a champ. Worth checking out!
