Seemed to work fine.. for about an hour

First-- I get that this is an inexpensive third-party adapter. It isn`t going to be made to the same standard as the OEM one. I just needed it to work-- which it did, for a short while before utterly failing.

It seemed to work fine initially, but then after being plugged in for a day (console off) it started having issues. It would blink out randomly about every 10-15 minutes during use and then eventually blinked out and then would not muster the power to start the console at all. It would start to deliver power and then brown out, you could see the LED dim as the console tried to start. My cube only draws 1.6A of power, this thing is *supposed* to be able to deliver twice that.

It also got uncomfortably hot. I think I got a defective unit because surely they call can`t be this bad, right?

I would have returned it, but I harvested the end off it so I could attach it to a 12V power supply that actually works.

More compact solution for GC power!

Posted by Jason Bardis on Aug 25th 2024

I have a ``portable`` GameCube setup (in a Pelican-style case, with a monitor, controllers, etc.). In this sort of an application, where space is at a premium, switching to this smaller power supply solved my packaging problem--everything fits now. Connectors fit nicely, build quality seems fine. It`s just a simple power supply. :] But it`s a cost-effective compact power supply that gets the job done.
