Tribute 64 Wired Controller - Not Bad

Posted by Christian Troelstrup on Nov 1st 2022

Really not a bad controller at all. For some reason a lot of 3rd party N64 controllers do not hit the mark but these are definitely OK. The only games I don't love using these controllers for is first person shooters like Goldeneye or Perfect Dark. The analog stick is just a bit too sensitive. However, all the buttons are great and the build quality is really really solid. I got a couple of these to have good controllers for multiplayer like Mario Kart and these are great.

    Great HoriPad alternative!

Posted by Zach on Oct 3rd 2022

This is an awesome controller for those looking to use an N64 HoriPad but who aren't able to get their hands on one, either due to rarity or price. The Tribute 64 offers a great, affordable solution to those who would like an expensive HoriPad. Additionally, the GameCube-style joystick is a great upgrade from the original N64 controller's stiff stick. If you'd like a HoriPad-like experience when playing N64 games, but don't want to shell out the absurd amount of money for one, this is a great alternative!

Good controller, takes some getting used to

Posted by Jay on May 10th 2021

Well built and very close to the original hori pad.
Because games were designed with the trident pad in mind, the trigger position may take some getting used to (think of goldeneye or starfox) and the d-pad is a bit out of place to be comfortable - but that is the design its copying anyway.
Would take this over the hyperkin equivalent all day long

    Great Controller

Great controller with a comfortable form factor. Buttons are responsive and the Gamecube style stick has a good range of motion and sensitivity.

    Tribute64

The analog stick takes a bit to get used to but overall the controller has a nice solid feel. Easy to transition from an official N64 controller and great for smaller hands.

Not The Controller I Was Hoping For

Posted by Marc on Apr 8th 2021

Well, this one wasn't a complete loss. But personally, I can't recommend it. I don't hate it, but, I'm inclined to use it, and I'll explain why.

The form factor, initially, is great. Its comfortable in the hands, sort of like an Xbox S-Type meets Gamecube. However, the Z button is really not great to use.

And the D-Pad, centered, its actually fine. I didn't really ever use it, and it makes sense to put it where its at. At least for what I played, so no loss of points for that.

The biggest culprit, is the Joystick. Its just WAY WAY too sensitive. Trying to play Rogue Squadron, I was just ALL over the place. You have to be VERY VERY gentle with it, it goes from 0-60 SO fast. Goldeneye and Perfect Dark... good luck aiming, its just a mess, not fun at all, and very frustrating.

Other games it was passible, if not pleasant, but the games I wanna play this with, its just not for me. I wouldn't recommend it, but you might not hate it.
