Does the job perfectly! Well, ALMOST perfect..

Posted by Alan Bingham on Aug 12th 2021

This is a perfect companion product to the Retrode 2! As I mentioned in my Retrode 2 review, I've always wanted to back up childhood saves, and as of late I've had a desire to also dump ROMs from my own personal carts rather than downloading them.

Anyway, this product does a fantastic job of doing both action for original Gameboy Games and Gameboy Color games. The only bit of imperfection this add-on comes with its handling of GBA titles. It can dump the ROMs, but not the saves. However, considering that there are a million other ways to dump GBA saves, I'm not too concerned. This is still basically a perfect product in my book, and WELL worth the 5 star rating I'm giving.

Not to mention, Stone Age Gamer has some of the best customer service I've ever dealt with. Please give them your business!

Backup your games and pair this with a everdrive!

Play Pokemon on your phone, then transfer your progress back to your cartridge!

Posted by Matthew Young on Aug 12th 2021

I love this. I was able to transfer my old Pokemon games to my PC, play them on Retroarch, earn Retro Achievements, use PKHex to edit in event Pokemon that are now otherwise impossible to catch, and then transfer the playthrough back to my cartridges (you'll need to replace the battery if you haven't already, but that's not too hard. A little Googling will yield instructions). It's fantastic!

The best way to back up GB/GBC games, with a GBA caveat

Posted by Patrick on Aug 11th 2021

It's super simple: plop the adapter into the Retrode 2, plop your Game Boy, Game Boy Color, or Game Boy Advance game into the adapter's slot, plug in your Retrode 2 to your PC, and you can make a backup of your cart with no issue. I was able to make copies of all of my old Game Boy games and Game Boy saves from the 90s, so I don't have to worry about losing that save data anymore.

The one big caveat is that GBA save data backup is NOT supported, so unfortunately you'll have to look for another solution for that.

Great for backing up save data for pokemon games

As time goes on the batteries in gameboy games die, and this means you'll lose your pokemon data no matter what, with this you don't have to worry about that, all you do is set the retrode to the lower voltage switch and plug this in and your game, it dumps the files and then you put them on your computer!

    Great accessory for the Retrode

Posted by Elliott H. on Aug 1st 2021

I was finally able to pick up a Retrode recently and this was a no-brainer to be able to back up my Gameboy collection. The only reason I didn't rate it 5 stars was it apparently can't read save files on GBA carts, at least according to the My Life in Gaming channel on YouTube (I haven't actually tried myself after seeing their video).

Good for more than you would think

It's true that this is good for creating backups of your Gameboy games & game saves but you can also write saves back onto the cartridge but I should mention the saves are not supported with gba games at the moment but with this adapter I was able to transfer my Pokémon Gen 1 & 2 saves to an emulator and get the other 2 starter Pokémon using the features of emulation and then transfer the save back to the physical cartridge which is insane

Used this to rip a handful of GBA cartridges. Worked perfectly.
