How do I know if I have a 20 or 21 pin Console?

20 pin drives are motherboard revisions VA0, VA0.5, VA0.8, VA1.
Please note some VA1 revisions come with a 21 pin drive instead of a 20 pin drive.
In order to find out if your console has a 20 pin drive without opening it, you can look for a screw at the back, next to the power supply socket.
If you see 3 screws, then it’s a 20 pin VA0. If not, then you need to check that the power and reset buttons are oval in shape and not round.
Another way to check, is to open the CD lid and look towards the back of the cd mechanism, to the gap on its right side.
If you see a white ribbon cable running towards the back, then you have a 20 pin drive.
If none of the above helps, then you most likely have a VA1 console and you need to open it to make sure your drive uses a 20 pin ribbon.

    Simple but incredibly effective ODE!

Posted by Chad F, on Oct 23rd 2024

I`ve used a few different ODEs, but the Fenrir is one I`ve bought twice because it`s simplicity has been a huge plus to me.

Simple firmware updates, easy to load the games you need, and leaving the cartridge port free for external RAM/Memory cards is a huge bonus if you want the full authentic Saturn experience. Really the only downside is installing the ODE does let feel a little flimsy on the old CD mounting brackets, but there`s additional brackets you can get to make it fit a lot nicer.

This is, hands down, the best ODE solution for the Sega Saturn. Pairs perfectly with the Pseudo Saturn All in One cartridge. Super easy to install and use. I cant praise it enough.

    Fenrir Duo

Posted by Andrew on Aug 24th 2024

Works great, makes life so much easier, but I do have a couple of notes on the installation. I ordered with the mounting bracket, which needed to be filed down by a couple of millimeters on the sides in the front where it squeezes between two parts of the upper console shell. Otherwise the shell wouldn`t close. Also, my Saturn had an extra board (PC BD TRAP) with the CD-ROM drive that wasn`t mentioned in any documentation; I had to find comments about it on the web. It simply needed to be removed with the rest of the drive. Also, the Fenrir would only be detected about 1 out of 3 or 4 attempts when powering up the console, until I updated the firmware by following the instructions on the product page. Now it is detected every time.

    Easy install. Works perfect

Posted by Omer on Jun 29th 2024

Fenrir was really easy to install. I installed it on my model2 Japanese Saturn. I have about 50 games and they all work flawlessly. I didnt use any fancy 3d printed mounts and brackets-- just bare stock Fenrir, the best.

    A quality product.

I found a mint Saturn at a flea market with no games, this was the best option. Easy setup, plenty of help online if you lose your way. Works as intended.

Got a cheap Japanese Saturn and swapped this in. Works amazing and so easy to install! One of the most user friendly mods out there!
