The new Monkey Island Anthology from Limited Run Games is here, and it's a beauty. It's also flippin' huge! What's in the box? Did Kris totally miss the Disk 22 joke? What important item is it missing? Let's find out!

Transcript of the video:

Hi, everyone. Kris, from Stone Age Gamer here and welcome back to the Stone Age Gaming. The original Secret of Monkey Island is easily one of my favorite games of all time, and it's not an overstatement to say that it actually changed my life. I love Monkey Island to death. So when Limited Run Games announced that they were releasing some gigantic crazy collectors compilation anthology of Monkey Island games, I had to buy caution to the wind. So they finally started showing up in people's mailboxes. And would you look at this? I mean, oh, this thing is massive. What the heck is inside of this box? Let's take a look.

[00:00:40] All right, everyone. Here it is. This is the Monkey Island Anthology, and it is enormous. So it's also gorgeous. So let's take a look at what's on the outside before we get to the inside. So right here we have this fantastic picture. We've got Guybrush and Elaine and a voodoo doll, and LeChuck over there. It all looks very snazzy in this very cool little border here. It's very reminiscent of the original games border on its box. Flip it over to the side here. Both sides have this going on just the list of all the games that are included in it. And then we've got this cool image on the back here. It's here, you know, map and pirate and monkey stuff, and it's great. And this is the same on this side over here. And if we look at the bottom, it has a list of the stuff that's on the inside, which we're about to look at. And then you go up to the top and here we are. There's the top of the box. Monkey Island anthology. So let's crack this sucker open now.

[00:01:40] Truth be told, I did open this already just to get all the plastic wrap and stuff off the things inside of it. Also, I could not resist because I was very excited. So included in my box was the limited run Club o' fun news, which is like a fun play on the old Nintendo Fan Club newsletter and whatnot. It's kind of like a big poster has all kinds of fun information in it, but that's not why you're here. We also have this. This is a trading card for Monkey Island anthology. I think all the limited run stuff comes with these trading cards. I got him in the few other limited run things that I got, so that's pretty snazzy. We also have this here. This is a certificate of authenticity with his autograph. This is number 46 17, and it's quite nice. Makes me happy. Certificate of Arrthenticity. I didn't even notice that until just now. That is a legitimately hilarious, right?

[00:02:38] And then we have this. This is one of the ways that they have delivered all of the games. This is the Monkey Island Anthology four disc collection. Nice little thing going on there. The limited run logo looking like the old Lucasfilm logo is pretty nice and breaking down what's on everything in here and you want to see the disc art looks and looks pretty nice. There's your Monkey Island one and two here. Curse and escape. And then the last two discs are the tails of Monkey Island. And that is that which is pretty Neato, we've got this.

[00:03:14] This is a ticket for Big Whoop, the big whippersnapper. This is, I think, a joke from the second game. I don't know if I mentioned this already, but I've only really played the first game and I've played it dozens and dozens of times. It's one of my all time favorites, but I've barely played any of the sequels, which is nuts and something I hope to correct now that I have this wonderful box set. But this this ticket here is pretty funny stuff you see. And have you read it? It says E on it, which is apparently very important. This cracks me up. This is and I'm assuming this functions, though I don't actually have a machine that can run it. This is an actual disk here that has the secret of Monkey Island on it, which is pretty darn cool. It doesn't feel like a tree. It's a real disk. It doesn't feel like it's 3D printed or anything. It's a it's an actual disk seeker Monkey Island. Totally awesome. T.

[00:04:08] Hen you have this guy right here. This is cool. So realizing that a lot of modern computers don't even have CD-ROM drives anymore, let alone disk drives, this is a flash drive that has all the games on it and the Lucasfilm logo all over it as well. This is how I will be playing the games on my computer, hopefully. So let's move on down to this. This is so super cool. This is the Monkey Island Chronicles, which is a really nice looking book here and inside of it. These actually came outside of it. I put them and tucked them in there to keep them safe.

[00:04:46] It comes with these really cool posters. Secret of Monkey Island is the original box art, and then on the back you've got Booty Island, which is pretty darn cool. So that's this one than Monkey Island 2 tLeChuck's revenge. Love this artwork! It's super cool. And then on the back of this one is Phat Island, which is also cool. Curse of Monkey Island, I remember when this game came out and thinking, man, I got to play more Monkey Island games, this is super cool and this one has Scab Island on the back, which is nice. Escape from Monkey Island. This one I played very briefly on PlayStation 2. I didn't get past the opening screen where Guybrush was tied to a mast. And then this has this Star Wars episode one. What's the word among them? Parody. There you go. Guybrush walking on Tatooine with a monkey shadow behind him, and that's something. Then you got Tales of Monkey Island, and I really wanted to play these ones, and I never got around to it. I think I actually downloaded most of my. I opened a steam account just to do this downloaded and never played them.

[00:05:53] And then you've got this, which is definitely a reference to some area of Monkey Island that I don't know. And I am very excited about it because it looks super cool. It's got a great machine in there. It doesn't look good grog machine. All right. And then you've got this wonderful book here. This anthology book is super cool. It's called the Monkey Island Chronicles, and it is just chock full of all kinds of behind the scenes information interviews. I cannot wait to read this thing front to back. I'm very, very excited about it because I mean, the humor in this game meant so much to me. So really learning about everything about how it was made and whatnot is going to be very exciting to me. But I mean, just look at all this wonderful information here. There's so much good stuff in here. I can't wait to read all about it. OK. We do have more. Oh, there is more. Let's see. There's another thing in here to see if I can get to it easily without knocking my microphone over here. There is this white square, and that's something now that White Square is actually to protect the book from this thing.

[00:07:01] This is the dial a pirate. I don't understand this either. I'm assuming this has something to do with one of the games that I haven't played anything with. I've seen pictures of this thing online and whatever it is, it's cool because you can spin this dial and kind of match up the different faces and get these different numbers. I don't know what this is about, but I'm really excited about it because it's really cool looking and because I've got these metal bits here. You keep this white piece of paper here between that and I won't scratch up your book. Very nice job on the packaging. So now we get to the real goods. Let's see what's in this bit here. All right. I'm going to stand up and get this out because this thing is large and unwieldy. And again, I don't want to knock my microphone over. Oh, the sound of Styrofoam squeaking against Styrofoam, isn't that just the best? OK, here we are. Is this the top or the bottom? Oh, I got this upside down. Oh no, I knocked down my papers. Get back here. All right. So, yeah, hopeless. No, I had it right. The first time was wrong with me.

[00:08:01] All right, so take this off and we've got some more cool things here. Now we've got this gentleman right here. This is Mary. I really only know that because of the box, this is from one of the Monkey Island games I haven't played, but he looks amazing and he's a candle holder, so that's pretty flippin awesome. Next, we have this is this is guy brush. This is a statue of guy brush. This is his Monkey Island to look. If I don't miss my guess because I remember playing Monkey Island too. And he had a blue coat, a beard. And there's a treasure chest and barrel. And here's the rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle. One of the best items that I've ever gotten in any video game, and it's a pretty awesome looking statue. I just I just love this. He looks fantastic.

[00:08:46] Then we've got this up here. This is a shadow box. I don't know how well you can see that in the video. This is kind of like the artovision stuff we carry on the site. This is from the point where they toss you in the water and try to drown you. And it harkens back to a joke earlier in the game where a guy says he can hold his breath for 10 minutes. And I remember getting stuck down here in your ear, so you're tied to this fabulous idol here, and you can only walk so far. But then I realized that I had this idol in my inventory the whole time. So you can just pick it up and then walk out water anytime you want, which is pretty funny, but you're just out of reach like this butcher knife and these scissors. And I think there's like another sword somewhere around. This is a really great scene and a really cool shadow box.

[00:09:32] But yes, I'm saving my favorite thing for last. These pins are pretty cool, right? You got guybrush. You got to Elaine. You got LeChuck. But this is what sold me. I'm not even kidding. This pin was what pushed me over the edge to actually go out and buy this box. This is the pin that says, Ask me about Loom. And it's one of the my my favorite gags from the secret of Monkey Island is there's a pirate sitting in the scum bar in the beginning and your response to everything you say with just I, except he's got this pin on. And when you ask them about loom, his face lights up and he goes in this giant sales pitch about Loom. And it is absolutely hysterical.

[00:10:13] So that is the contents of the Monkey Island anthology from limited run games. And as far as I'm concerned, this has pretty much everything you would need, except it's missing one important thing that I just happen to have, which is this. That's right. This is a rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle, and I actually have one, and it's one of my favorite things in my collection. A friend of mine gave this to me as a, I think, a Christmas present one year. And unlike guy brushes that he stole from the voodoo lady, my pulley does not squeak. So, yes, here is an actual rubber chicken with a pulley in the middle. It's a bummer that this was not included in the limited run games set. However, I have one, and it makes me very happy. So there you go.

[00:11:01] So when I said the secret of Monkey Island changed my life, I was actually talking about this, this is my original copy of The Secret of Monkey Island came with my family's first home PC and my dad ordered some sort of crazy PC box set or whatever that came with a handful of games had Ultima six, the false prophet had wing commander. It had the Compton's interactive encyclopedia, some animals thing, and it also had this. And when I first saw the box art for it, I I didn't really understand the concept of what a comedy game even was like just video games or video games. They weren't jokes, so I thought it was going to be some sort of serious pirate adventure and not being big in a pirates. I just kind of put off playing it for a long time. And when I eventually booted it up, I was immediately blown away by the sound and the music. But then I started laughing and the comedy. The writing in this game was so hilarious to me. It actually helped for my sense of humor. So secret of Monkey Island really did have a profound effect on me as a kid, and I still can't believe I haven't played the sequels for more than a very limited amount of time. Monkey. Island 2 I played maybe an hour or so of the remake, the special edition one that the rest room. I haven't even touched, so I'm pretty excited to dove into this thing and actually play through the rest of the series That has meant so much to me, even though I've only played the first entry that I have played it a lot of times.
