A new way to play your PlayStation

MODE, Terra Onion’s Optical Disc Emulator for Sega Dreamcast and Sega Saturn, is getting PlayStation 1 support!

If you aren’t familiar with MODE, it’s effectively a flash cart equivalent for disc-based consoles like Saturn and Dreamcast. It allows you to run your games off of a hard drive or SD card instead of using discs. Now, Terra Onion has announced that they will be releasing an adapter that allows MODE to run on the original PlayStation.

Details are still a little scarce, but here’s what we know so far.

-This is not a solder-free plug and play unit. Due to the nature of the PlayStation, there will be some modding necessary to make MODE run on it. We will be offering this modding service, though we don’t have any pricing or release dates at this time.

-This is not an entirely new MODE unit. The PlayStation compatibility will be added via an adapter kit. It’s an expansion of what the original MODE can do.

-We will be carrying it! We don’t know when, or how much it will cost, but we are on board.

There are still plenty of unanswered questions, but as soon as we learn more, we’ll be sure to share it with you. You can still pre-order MODE from our site here, so if you haven’t already gotten yourself one, there’s still time!

For now, here’s TerraOnion’s announcement video. Enjoy!
