How Retro Frog cables differ from the competition:

You are probably wondering “so how exactly do these Gold cables differ from the existing stuff?”. Well, I’m glad you asked. These cables are built with 75 ohm mini coax cabling end to end on ALL signal wires. Even audio. These lines are individually double shielded with both a spiral wrapping and foil shielding to insure no crosstalk from other signals and rejection of outside interference from other cables, power lines. Wifi and etc. Our RCA connectors have been selected to ensure the the best possible connection to your devices. No more death grip where it feels like you are doing to destroy something.

However, the same cannot be said for the vast majority of existing AV cables on the market for these consoles. At best you get minimal shielding; at worst no shielding at all. And NONE of them use 75 ohm mini coax because it simply costs more to produce. To add insult to injury, the rest of the cable construction on most of these cables is pretty poor. Sometimes the RCA connector starts coming apart after being plugged in and out a handful of times on those cheaply made cables. To top it off, many of these cables aren’t assembled correctly and have left and right stereo signals reversed which can cause additional problems.

What the heck is 75 ohm mini coax anyways?

75 ohm mini coax is the standard used in analog broadcast cabling. The vast majority of BNC cabling used in these environments is made up of 75 ohm mini coax. 75 ohm impedance is important in analog video signals as that is what this hardware was designed for and the signals are 75 ohms. So it’s important to use impedance matched cabling from console to display. If the impedance is mismatched it can cause reflections and ringing which can result in a degraded signal. And since Retro Frogt Gold cables are use our 75 ohm mini coax on all lines, they get the extra benefit of noise rejection from outside sources as each line is individually shielded.

75 ohm mini coax composes of a center dielectric (of PE insulation) with a copper core and double shielding going around it. The amount of copper in the core, the type of insulation that make up the dielectric, and the amount of shielding are what determines the cable impedance. Anything less is not 75 ohm compliant cabling.

    Better than OEM

Posted by Dwight on Aug 1st 2024

Quality of materials used are immediately noticed with a thick but extremely flexible cable. The DIN connector fits the Genesis 2 output port securely like it was OEM and the RCA ends don’t have a death grip on TV/Monitor inputs. This cable provides video and audio quality thats noticeably better than all other aftermarket composite cables I’ve tried. Now if they can produce and offer a Genesis Model 1 cable, which is mono I’d be very happy

    Awesome Cables

Posted by Brian on Jun 5th 2024

Well shielded cables that make my Genesis look surprisingly good, especially since my only experience with Genesis composite is with really cheap, terrible cables. I like using these with my composite CRTs and RF CRTs with a VCR.

    Absolutely amazing cable!

If you own a Sega Genesis with a good composite video encoder, this cable is for you! I have a model 2 VA4 and the video quality and especially sound quality is unmatched among the composite cables I have used. I don`t hear a single trace of static anywhere, and stereo audio has never sounded this good before. Most of the cheap generic genesis cables have incorrect stereo and will not sound right, this cable does not have that problem at all.

    Nice Replacemnt Cable

Posted by Kennedy on Apr 23rd 2024

Very solid replacement cable for my aging OEM composite cable. Cable is built well and the connectors are snug, but not tight, on the A/V inputs for my tv. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a replacement or just a good quality composite cable for the Genesis Model 2

    FINALLY, good Genesis composite cables

    Posted by D E on Dec 31st 2023

Simply put, this is the best available composite cable for the Genesis Model 2 on the market that is actually built properly. The reason why I say this is because before this went to market, the cheap made ones had the mono pin set to the right audio connector and the right channel is set to the left audio connector! This one finally eliminates that issue alongside that you won`t get any more audio buzzing due to the superior shielding. Original Genesis composite cables are very hard to spot due to how there`s almost ZERO indication of an original OEM cable compared to others like Nintendo, Sony`s PlayStation, and Microsoft`s Xbox.
