Basic Edition vs. Deluxe Edition

The Basic Edition comes with just the FXPAK Pro cartridge with a gray back label in the selected style or configuration covered by a 1-year Warranty. Whereas the Deluxe Edition includes the cartridge with gold back label, a case, printed manual, an FXPAK Pro sticker, Stone Age Gamer sticker, and is covered by a 2-year Warranty.

Features

  • microSD supported (tested up to 64GB; no exFAT support so SDXC cards must be reformatted using FAT32).
  • Fast ROM loading (~9MB/s).
  • Fast menu navigation.
  • Directories are sorted automatically, no need for FAT sorting tools.
  • High resolution menu (512×224) for adequate display of long file names.
  • Real Time Clock.
  • Supports ROM size up to 128MBit (96Mbit actually implemented).
  • Automatic near-time SRAM saving to SD Card (while the game runs). Some limitations apply:
    • near-time saving is switched to periodic saving when a game is found to use the SRAM as work RAM.
    • Automatic saving is disabled when MSU1 is used. SRAM is saved on reset.
    • Enhancement chip support (see below for implementation status).
  • SuperCIC key (SNES CIC clone):
    • enables operation on unmodified consoles of all regions.
    • supports software 50/60Hz switching on SuperCIC enhanced consoles only (to be performed by FXPAK firmware, not yet implemented there).
    • Auto region patching: eliminates “This Game Pak is not designed…” messages regardless of 50/60Hz setting.

Worth the money for the MSU-1 stuff. And playing SGB games + MSU-1 was a surprise for me. Links Awakening with cd quality audio is amazing.

This flash cart is definitely worth the price. I have thought about getting one for a long time and have no regrets, this is an awesome piece of hardware. Setup was pretty straightforward, and game and sound quality are great. Especially for SNES where original cartridge prices are really high right now, I think this will pay for itself pretty quickly.

Worth it just for the MSU1 Chip

Posted by gamerjerome on Nov 14th 2021

I mulled over getting FXPAK Pro for sometime. I felt it was a lot to spend on a flash cart. Then I saw what people were doing with the MSU1 chip on the Pro model. CD quality Music on SNES? Yes please. This clear and purple accented model also looks great with the new smoke SNES console shells that came out.

As for the functionality I'm pretty happy with it. Once set up it's pretty easy to use and everything worked. I did however drop this review to 4 stars because of the setup. It wasn't difficult to put the firmware on it but it would be nice if it was designed in a way that you didn't have too. If you're looking for the newest firmware it's not directly linked from the product page, which would be nice, but it's down in the footer link called Flash Cart Downloads.

Other than the small setup it's worth it.

    FXPak Pro

This is by far the best solution for playing ROM-hacks on the original Hardware. The firmware development ist still active and more functions are getting added. Definitely worth the price.
